Safe. Sacred. Sound. Let’s Demystify What Happens in a Session

Hi Reader,

Now that you understand how sound impacts your nervous system—and why it’s such a powerful tool for trauma healing—you might be wondering:

What actually happens during a sound healing session?

Whether you're new to this practice or returning after time away, know this: each session is designed to offer you deep safety, rest, and nervous system nourishment. No pressure to perform or “do” anything—just space to receive.

Here’s a gentle walk-through of what to expect:

🕊️ A Soft Landing

We begin with a few moments to settle in—grounding breathwork, guided meditation, and intention setting, depending on what I feel you need. This lets your body know it's safe to relax and prepares your nervous system to receive the healing frequencies.

🎶 Immersive Sound Journey

As you lie back (fully clothed and supported by a massage table or mat, cozy blankets, and cushions), you’ll be guided through a soundscape using instruments like Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, tuning forks, and more. In group sessions, I may also use a gong, handpan/steel tongue drum, flute, crystal bowls, or other instruments.

Each frequency is carefully chosen to interact with your body’s natural vibration—helping move stagnant energy and gently opening pathways of restoration, clarity, and emotional release.

Some clients fall into a meditative state. Others feel waves of emotion, or a lightness in their body. There’s no right or wrong way to experience sound—only what your system needs in that moment.

💫 A State of Rest and Regulation

The sounds stimulate your vagus nerve through the middle ear, activating the parasympathetic nervous system—your rest-and-digest state. It’s here that your body begins to process, regulate, and heal without needing to revisit the trauma itself.

In this sacred stillness, your body re-learns what safety feels like.

🌙 Integration and Return

After the sound journey, we allow time for gentle integration. You may feel peaceful, emotional, grounded, or spacious. We honor and support whatever arises.

Some clients leave feeling like something "shifted"—lighter, clearer, more connected to their intuition. Others notice the benefits unfold in the days that follow—better sleep, more clarity, less reactivity, more presence in their relationships.

Sound healing doesn’t force your healing—it invites it.

And over time, your body begins to trust that it’s safe to come home again.

If you're ready to experience the medicine of sound for yourself, I invite you to book a private or group session with me in May.

Hi Reader, Let’s take a deeper dive into the why behind sound healing—because while it may feel magical, there’s solid science that explains why it works so beautifully, especially for trauma survivors. At the center of it all is your nervous system—and more specifically, the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in your body, connecting your brainstem to your heart, lungs, digestive tract, and—interestingly—your ears. That’s right: part of the vagus nerve innervates the...
